Finding Spirituality in Indonesia - Stop 1: Borobudur (Day 1) - Touring Magelang

After being awake for the past 7 hours, exploring Borobudur, and it is not even lunch time yet, what do you do??

Explore the town Borobudur is located in. Borobudur is located in Magelang, a very small town in central Java. Other than the iconic Borobudur itself, there are other Buddhist candis (temple) scattered around the town.

Since our trip was to find 'ourselves', we rented a bike and cycled to the temples.

In the blazing heat, we cycled away, stopping by mini temples and wandering into the local shops.

One of the temples - Candi Pawan

The one temple that struck a chord with both my aunt and I is Candi Mendut.

Candi Mendut
Candi Mendut is located about three kilometres east from Borobudur.

*The three temples: Mendut, Borobudur and Pawan, are all located in one straight line.*

When we walked in, a blanket of tranquility just laid over us. Everything was just so still, peaceful and cooling (when it was like a furnace outside!). It was like something came over us. In our world, we just stared at the dignified Buddha in front of us. No sounds, no movement, nothing!
That was the time we actually 'meditated' in our own way.

Candi Mendut, to me, is more sacred than the renowned Borobudur! You must visit the candi. But please bear in mind, the effect of places of worship usually differs by person :)

With this serene end, I shall now bid you farewell and see you in Yogyakarta tomorrow!
